Event description Section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 (Act) places a duty on specified authorities, such as schools, to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism- this is known as Prevent Duty.

Ofsted “inspectors will consider the extent to which leaders, managers and those responsible for governance ensure that arrangements to protect children and learners meet statutory requirements…. including the prevention of radicalisation and extremism”. (Inspecting safeguarding in early years, education and skills settings May 2019; updated Sept 2019)

The aim of this training is to ensure that head teachers and governors are clear about how to develop a whole school approach to the Prevent duty in order to safeguard pupils and meet Ofsted requirements.

School headteachers and governors are encouraged to access the Home Office e-learning training on Prevent prior to attending- Prevent Awareness eLearning 
Training objectives By the end of the training, leaders will:

- Have a clear understanding about the Prevent duty and requirements for schools
- Be familiar with the type of questions that Ofsted may ask
- Be able to develop a whole school approach to Prevent
