Event description This session is designed to promote a greater understanding of how individuals may be affected by autism and how this may impact on their inclusion in schools. We will consider some case studies relating to how school teams can be supported in ensuring they use their best endeavours to include pupils on the autism spectrum and there will also be opportunities to consider how barriers to inclusion may be reasonably challenged in different schools.

The session will be delivered by Dawn Clegg, Outreach Lead at Springhallow school and Brigitte Bistrick-Bryan, Springhallow Governor and member of the West London Special School Governors Group.

Dawn has worked at Springhallow School for 16 years. She currently leads a small outreach team, which supports staff in Ealing’s mainstream schools to include their pupils with autism and social communication needs. This is done through individual referrals and through training. Her background is in special education and includes supporting individuals from nursery age to adulthood.

Brigitte has been a governor at Sprighallow school for 10 years, is a member of the West London Special School Governor Group and works as the Manager at Contact a charity that offers support to families with disabled children. Contact - for families with disabled children.
