Event description A governor eco schools training session – linked to DfE Sustainability and climate change strategy for education (April 22) and NGAs Environmental sustainability a whole school approach: A guide for govenring boards

Within their strategy the DfE state that by 2025 all education settings will have a climate action plan in place outlining how schools will incorporate environmental sustainability within their curricular and extra-curricular activity, procurement, adaptation, and decarbonisation plans. To facilitate the plan, they expect every school to nominate a sustainability lead who will receive carbon literacy training.

Natalie Bayliss from ActForEaling, Ealing’s new climate organisation, will be sharing with governors / leaders what schools can do to make Ealing a more sustainable place to live, work and learn.

This session will explore:

  • Why sustainability in schools is so vital both for pupils and the communities around them.

  • How to prepare your school for a greener future

  • Use of practical resources

  • What other schools have achieved and how they benefited from their green transition.

Ealing Council declared a climate emergency in April 2019, and in January 2021, following consultations with local organisations and residents, the council published its Climate and Ecological Emergency Strategy.
