Event description | Two part training: Session 1 - 28th November 18:00-19:30 Session 2 - 30th November 18:00 -19:30 The DfE governance handbook makes clear that in section 175 of the Education Act 2002, and The Education (Independent School Standards) Regulations 2014 governing boards must have arrangements in place to ensure that they: • Carry out their functions with a view to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children; and • Have regard to the statutory guidance issued by the Secretary of State in considering what arrangements they need to make for the purpose of that section.” By the end of the session governors will have: • An understanding of Government legislation around safeguarding and child protection • An understanding of the processes and procedures which schools should have in place • the knowledge to support their governing board in performing their statutory safeguarding duty This session aimed at relatively new governors or as a refresher for existing governors is being run by Michelle Hanafi. Michelle delivers all levels of safeguarding training and a range of topics specific to working with emotionally damaged and vulnerable children and young people. Michelle has many years' experience in the field of social care, children's rights, education and therapy. She is the Service Manager of Counselling Services in two schools, both primary and secondary and regularly delivers training nationally. Michelle has extensive experience working in LA Social Care and Education services, representing children and young people in board and panel hearings, for those in the child protection system, as looked after children and for those with disabilities and learning difficulties. She is a postgraduate in psychotherapy and the arts; working directly with emotionally damaged children and young people. She has delivered numerous training events in schools and at a strategic level within local authorities, social services, and national charities.
