Event description | The Governance Handbook states that Governors need to know their school, if accountability is to be robust and the vision for the school is to be achieved. Through pre-arranged visits and meetings with key staff, which have a clear focus, the board can see for themselves how policies and improvement plans are working in practice. Visits also provide an opportunity to talk with pupils, staff, and parents, to build relationships and to demonstrate commitment. Through discussion and activities, this course will explore how governor visits, aligned to key priorities can be structured to benefit the school and to make the most of governor and staff time. Given past COVID-19 restrictions, this session will also consider additional ways governors can build knowledge about their school in addition to visits. At the end of the session governors will:
