Event description Training for Governors Reviewing Permanent Exclusions and Suspensions

The aim of the training session is to:

 

Understand the changes in the 2022/2023 DfE guidance and the nature of the involvement of Governors and Clerks in the permanent exclusion process.



·       The types of incident that can lead to exclusion

·       Governors role in reviewing their school’s data on exclusions/suspensions/pupil movement

·       Pupils with a social worker, including Children Looked After or Previously Looked After

·       Particular groups more likely to be excluded

·       Pupils with an EHC Plan

·       Requirements for governors to review permanent exclusions/suspensions and possible outcomes

·       An overview of the role of the Clerk

·       The role of the Chair

·       The format of the governors review meeting

·       The role of the governors at the meeting and during deliberations

 

The role of the Independent Review Panel

·       The role of the SEN Expert

·       Possible outcomes and implications for the governors

·       Ealing statistics on IRPs and pupils reinstated by governors
