These termly sessions are aimed at experienced governors who may be chairs and/or leads in key strategic priority areas. They aim to provide an opportunity for governors to share good practice as part of a networking opportunity. Each session will have a structured format focusing on core functions of governance and self review. This event is free for all ELP schools

Wednesday 5th February 2020 - session three 
Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent. How do you know you are managing and monitoring the budget effectively

Qustions to consider prior to coming ot he session - areas you can share with colleagues in your group:

- How does the GB oversee finance -  what structures/processes are in place?
- Are there clear terms of reference if a committee – role profile if an individual? (Can you share)
- How is information presented – format, by whom, how often? Does it meet governor/trustee needs?
- Do you have a 3-5 year budget projection? Have governors been an integral part of this
- Have risks been considered and planned for – e.g. projected pupil numbers, FSM, likely pupil premium, SEND, projections of staffing that will be necessary –likely curriculum needs
- What plans are in place if your budget is likely to be in deficit? Do you know?
Each school will have 10 minutes to share what their school does with two other schools, at the end of which other group members provide feedback for five minutes each - this can be for qustions; identifying what you like/have learnt; suggestions for improvements if approprite. In addition to the above there will also be an input from an Ealing officer to keep you up to date with national and local changes/issues and on Ealing Laaring Partnerhsip (ELP).
