Event description Part 2 - For more experienced governors and follow up to part 1 on 23rd November 2021.

The Department for Education (DfE) clearly state that ‘all children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) should be able to reach their full potential in school. They should also be supported to make a successful transition into adulthood, whether into employment, further or higher education or training’ (DfE, 2013).

The SEND training sessions will ensure that all governors understand their legal responsibilities regarding SEND (part 1). Part 2 will build on part one to consider the role of a SEND governor in reviewing the school's policy and practice for pupils with SEND to ensure that parents have confidence in provision and equalities duties are being met.

During the sessions there will be an opportunity to share good practice and discuss key topics relating to inclusive practice such as Ofsted expectations, Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and reasonable adjustments that schools should make to support their children with additional needs.

These sessions will be facilitated by Madhu Bhachu, ELP Quality and Partnership Lead for SEN and Inclusion.
